What subs should I consider? ($300-400)

I'm looking at new subs and trying to find all that may fit what I want. I'd looking to :

1) spend around $300-400 or so on subs
2) keep wattage around 1500, possibly a bit more
3) thinking of a single 15 or 18, but two lower line 12's or 15's may work
4) can go up to about 10ft^3 total ported
5) daily music use (wide variety of music)
6) won't be maxed out all the time, but want something that can get very loud when I want it to
7) going in a '03 Explorer

Let me know of any info I may have forgot to mention. Subs I've looked at are FI BL and Q, SSA Xcon, Sundown Z, 2 Sundown SA 15's, and American Bass HD. I believe Image Dynamics is coming out with a new 15" IDMax, just don't know how long I may have to wait on that. I also have some eq'ing I can do to hopefully get a flat-ish response (seems to me a big part of "SQ").

So those are a few subs that seem to fit my needs from what I've read, but I don't follow car audio as close as most here, so I'd like to check out any other suggestions. Thanks!

There was a budget sub thread a while back but it died off. It would be nice to see something like that again. I have 2 JLw6 10's, I got them just because they were a sure thing but I am just dying to try something different. I have been checking out budget friendly 12's. The ssa dcon, re sex, infinity selectable ohm just to name a few. I am happy with the w6's but something new is always fun.

Seems like the FI is the best bang for the buck there, but I don't know much about those other two yet.

if you can find one, think about a jbl gti mkii 15. freaking sweet subs and you should be able to find a used one for that price.

That, or go for the FI Q
Did they stop making gti mkii's? I remember now people talking highly about them awhile back, I'll check them out.

Ah yes Dayton...something I should have thought of since I owned a 15" DVC many years ago lol. I liked that sub, so I will definitely check out there higher up models.

Thanks again guys!

I have heard good things about the JBL subs too. I would like to try the infinity 12.1's too. I wonder why they quit making those?

I wish I could try things but because I live in bfe, I have to rely on reviews. That's why I went with the JL's, even people who hate them use them as a benchmark for comparison.

That's a lot of space. Get the most cone area you can afford. Two 15's easily, a single 18, or possibly two 18's depending on the brand. Sub up, port back, will probably yield the best results. Look on the SSA store, really any subs there are pretty good. Also look at DC Audio and PSI. PSI can build you pretty much anything you need, but are sometimes more expensive. I've got DC's now, but I want to try PSI next.

I think two 15's would be better, but given your budget, one 18" would probably be best that can handle that power. DC Level 4 18", SSA XCON 18", IA Death Row 18", Fi Q 18", PSI Platform 2 18", are all in your budget. Again, if it was me I would rather do two 15's, and if your budget will allow, that's probably the way to go. I'm a fan of DC, so if I had to choose, it would be 2 DC Level 3 15's.

That's assuming this budget was not including the amp.
